Did you know that there is a ‘Beckham Law’?

Yes, you were right… the name of the law comes from the famous English footballer David Beckham, who was one of the first to benefit from this tax regime when he moved to Spain in 2003 to play for Real Madrid. This legislation offered foreign sportsmen and women favourable taxation, with a fixed tax rate. Over time, the regime was extended to other foreign professionals and workers.

In 2022, Law 28/2022, known as the ‘Beckham Law’, was passed, with the purpose of:

  • Attract international talent .
  • To boost investment in key sectors of the economy .
  • Improve Spain’s global competitiveness.

Key requirements to benefit from the Beckham Law:

  1. Not having been a tax resident in Spain in the last 5 years.
  2. Relocate to Spain under an employment contract with a Spanish company.
  3. For company directors: not owning more than 24% of the shares of the company.
