TikTok’s future at risk?

Something’s going on with the world’s most popular social network…

Can you imagine a world without TikTok? This is already a reality in more than 20 countries and could become even more widespread. Bans, fines and restrictions are marking the path of this social network that millions of people use every day.

What is going on?

  • In the US: The RESTRICT (Restricting the Emergence of Security Threats that Risk Information and Communications Technology) Act could force the app to be sold or banned altogether, citing national security risks.
  • In Albania: a tragic case led to a one-year ban on TikTok.
  • In Russia: Fines against TikTok amount to thousands of dollars for not complying with local regulations.
  • In more than 20 countries: legal measures have been taken to control, limit or ban the use of the app.

Why so much legal noise?

TikTok is known for its innovative algorithm, designed to engage users. However, this also raises concerns:

  • Data privacy: TikTok is accused of sharing user information with third parties.
  • Social impact: It is reported to affect mental health, is used to disseminate sensitive content and generates misinformation, especially among young people.

What about Spain?
Although there are no specific measures against TikTok, its future here could be influenced by decisions in other countries.
